Baumann, Hinde & Co. Ltd - "BAHICO" was established 1955 when an East African trading house "A. Baumann" and Liverpool Cotton Merchant Tony Hinde united to create a UK based International Raw Cotton Merchant.
The Baumann group's primary role was to source cotton throughout East Africa whilst Tony Hinde worked to develop sales outlets in the UK and Europe. At the same time the Company became a principal player in the marketing of Nigerian cotton and formed strong relationship's with producers in Tchad, Argentina, Brazil, and other important producing nations.
During the 1960s and 1970s Bahico's activities expanded as the Company established itself as a leading supplier to the booming textile markets of the Far East. Buyers throughout these most important markets lent tremendous support as the Company continued to expand its supply sources in Turkey, Mozambique and Paraguay, amongst others.
Bahico's portfolio broadened continously during the 1980s and 1990s and the Company became volume exporters of cotton from Colombia, Benin and Spain. Bahico also handled exports of all the cottons produced in sub-Saharan Africa by their former owners, Lonrho plc.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Bahico became active in Central Asia and excellent relationships were developed with producers in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The Company maintains a strong presence in Central Asia.
Many close and enduring trading relationships have evolved and flourish in areas where the Company operates. They are based upon mutual respect, integrity and reliability; principles which we hold most dear. The World's cotton market is in constant evolution and we have had to adapt with it, however, we conduct our business with those same staunch principles and a determination to provide quality and service to all our trading partners.
The Bahico team has vast experience in all aspects and areas of the cotton business and enjoys an excellent reputation throughout the world's cotton and textile markets.
